What is a Therapy Consultation?
about-two-arrow

Our therapy consultation is a 30-minute initial session designed to help you explore whether therapy is the right step for you — and whether we're the right fit to work together. It's a low-pressure, supportive conversation focused on understanding your current needs, emotional struggles, goals, and expectations. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or just curious about therapy, this session gives you the space to share what's on your mind in a safe and confidential environment.

What to Expect in Your Consultation Call?

During the consultation, we’ll gently explore:
• What brings you to therapy at this time,
• Areas of difficulty or recurring emotional challenges
• What goals you'd like to work toward (individually or as a couple),
• Any previous therapy experience
• Your preferences and expectations from therapy.
An overview of therapeutic approaches we may use (e.g. psychodynamic, CBT, integrative). You can also ask any questions you have about the therapeutic process, frequency of sessions, confidentiality, or how we might structure our work together.

Why is a Consultation Important?

This initial meeting offers more than just an introduction. It’s an important step in ensuring that you feel:
• Heard and understood
• Informed about your options
• Comfortable with the therapeutic environment
• Empowered to make a decision about how you’d like to proceed
The consultation is also your opportunity to get a sense of the therapeutic approach and decide whether it feels aligned with your personal needs and values.

What Happens After the Consultation?

If we agree to begin therapy together, we’ll invite you to complete a Therapy Intake & Progress Planning Form. This form is a collaborative tool designed to:
• Outline the areas you'd like to explore in therapy
• Set an initial number of sessions (which can always be reviewed)
• Identify emotional goals and progress markers
• Provide a basis for ongoing reflection and review throughout the therapeutic journey.
This ensures transparency, alignment, and continuity — so you always feel informed and involved in your own growth.
